Goa: season, monsoon and where to base yourself

Goa changes twice a year. October to April it is beaches, markets and parties; June to September it is green, empty and cheap. Both versions are good — just not for the same trip.
Season vs monsoon
October to April is the official season: calm sea, every shack open, higher prices. June to September is monsoon — spectacular landscape, waterfalls at full flow, and a sea that is off-limits most days.
North or south
North Goa (Arpora, Anjuna, Vagator) is lively, with nightlife and markets. South Goa (Palolem, Agonda) is quieter and more family-oriented. A bike makes the choice less critical — they are an hour apart.
Riding in Goa
Riding here is nothing like the Himalaya: short distances, good tarmac and town traffic. Helmet, an international licence and daylight riding prevent most incidents.
- Dudhsagar falls in the wet season — a full day.
- Chapora fort and sunset at Vagator — an afternoon.
- The southern run to Palolem — an easy riding day.
Frequently asked
- Is August worth it in Goa?
- Yes, if you come for green, quiet and low prices — not for the sea. Some businesses close and swimming is restricted.
- Do I need an international licence?
- Yes. Riding legally in India requires a valid International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, and we verify it at handover.
