Rajasthan itinerary: 7 days by motorcycle

Rajasthan is big, and a week does not cover it. Instead of racing between five cities, this route commits to one logical line — Pushkar west into the desert and back — with riding days that end before dark.
The route, day by day
Distances are set so no day exceeds about six hours on the bike, stops included.
- Day 1 — Pushkar: settle in, the lake, dunes at sunset.
- Day 2 — Pushkar to Jodhpur, about 200 km.
- Day 3 — Jodhpur: Mehrangarh fort and the blue city.
- Day 4 — Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, about 285 km; a long day.
- Day 5 — Jaisalmer: the living fort and a night in the Sam dunes.
- Day 6 — Jaisalmer to Bikaner, or turn back east.
- Day 7 — Return to Pushkar, or overnight train to Delhi.
Riding in Rajasthan — what's different
Main highways are fast and decent, but traffic is mixed: trucks, tractors and cattle. The single most important rule is not to ride after dark — unlit vehicles are routine.
Heat is the limiting factor even in winter. Leave at 07:00, be done by 15:00.
What to skip
With only a week, Udaipur and Agra pull the route apart. Leave them for next time and go deeper on the desert line.
Rough budget for the week
Hostel or small-hotel beds, local food, fuel and entry fees come to roughly $250—$400 per person, excluding the motorcycle.
Frequently asked
- Can this route be done by car?
- Yes — the distances are the same and more comfortable by car. The bike adds the villages and side roads you would otherwise pass by.
- What is the right season?
- October to March. From April to June desert heat passes 42°C and riding becomes genuinely unsafe.
- Do I need an international licence?
- Yes. An International Driving Permit with a motorcycle category is required for valid insurance.
- Can I start from Jaipur?
- Absolutely. Jaipur to Pushkar is a two-and-a-half-hour drive, and you can collect the bike from us in Pushkar.
